For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to help people.  However, I’ve always feared that helping people would mean choosing to be unable to support myself or my family.

I’ve always been passionate about helping low-income communities.  With my love for biology, I quickly found a way to merge

these two paths to find a direction.

While at Emory I hope to intern with a professor researching DNA & global health.  Words cannot express

how grateful I am for this scholarship, and the

opportunity to pursue my purpose without

financial insecurity.

Gratefully,

A.B.

I hope this letter finds you well.  I am currently writing this letter in order to give you all the thank you that you deserve. This is a message that is long overdue, but I wanted to make it clear how much your generosity means to me.   It's been four years since I was first awarded the Civic League Scholarship. This award came at a time in which my family struggled financially and I was uncertain at the prospect of college. My mother was laid off from her job and higher education felt like a goal too impractical to be a reality. Thanks to you all, I was able to attend Texas A&M University despite my lack of resources. Instead of helping me simply get to College Station you stayed with me in all four years of my studies. As I grew and embarked on my college journey you continued to support me and affirm my abilities each year I reapplied. I have now graduated from Texas A&M and can't help but be grateful to the people who have brought me to where I am today.

I am currently applying to medical school in the hope of becoming a physician. I believe medicine is my way of loving people and bringing light into a world that is sometimes too dark and cynical. This is a stage in life that I never thought possible in

high school and I have you all to thank for helping me get there.

I fervently hope this letter serves to remind you that your acts of kindness are appreciated and do make a difference in the

lives of those you help. I hope this gives you all encouragement to continue your

philanthropic work in the same way that you encouraged me all of these years.

I will carry your generosity with me for a long time to come.

Thank you, Respectfully ~ I.A.

I would love to thank The Civic League Foundation for providing me this opportunity to make my dream come true and continue my studies in college.  This scholarship has paid off most of what was left for Albright College and I couldn’t have done it withot the help of this organization.

Ever since my college counselor recommended me to apply, I felt an excited rush to do so.  Something told me that this

foundation will help as much as they could, and I was right.

When it was time for my interview, I was incredibly dedicated to the point of arriving 30 minutes early.  When my turn happened, the interviewers were the sweetest ladies I have ever met. The questions they

would ask made me realize how concerned this organzation is to meet the needs of each recipient.

Sharing laughs, answers and memories.  The staff  made me believe that nothing is impossible and

nothing can stop me from accomplishing my dreams to a pschyologist as  well as study pre-law.

As soon as the Honors Assembly made it known that I was one of the recipients of this

$2,500 scholarship, I never felt such honor in my life.  Thank you all for giving me an opportunity to

fulfill my goals. All of this couldn’t have happened without you. I cannot thank you enough, not only for me,

but also for my fellow peers who received scholarships.

With lots of love,

J.B.
